Is There a Modern Church in Elkhorn? Yes — Here's What That Actually Means

“Modern church” is one of those phrases that can mean three very different things.

It can mean skinny jeans and smoke machines. It can mean a rock show pretending to be a church. Or it can mean a church that is rooted in timeless truth and knows how to communicate it in a way that connects with real life today. That third thing is what we are, and it’s what we want to talk about.

What “modern” doesn't mean at Love Church.

Modern does not mean shallow. It does not mean we avoid hard things to keep the room comfortable. It does not mean we trade the Gospel for a self-help talk. And it does not mean we replace Scripture with a motivational quote.

Modern also does not mean performative. The lights don’t exist to impress you. The music isn’t a concert. The stage is not a pedestal. We believe church is at its best when the focus stays on Jesus, not the people on the platform.

So what does modern actually mean?

It means we preach Scripture in plain English. It means our worship sounds more like the music on your drive to work than something from another era. It means we ask honest questions about what it actually looks like to follow Jesus in 2026, in a home with a mortgage, in a job with deadlines, and in a family with real tension.

It means we don’t use insider language when we talk to first-time visitors. If we call something “Love Kidz,” we also explain that it’s our kids ministry for birth through fifth grade. If we say “Encounter,” we mean a Sunday service. Plain language wins.

It means we don’t manipulate. There are no guilt-based giving talks. There are no altar calls designed to pressure. There are no emotional moments created to push you into a decision you’re not ready to make.

What a Sunday sounds like.

The music is a full band: drums, bass, keys, guitars, and real singers. You’ll probably recognize some of the songs from K-LOVE or your Spotify playlist. The message is about thirty minutes. Pastor Mike preaches most Sundays, and when he’s not preaching, you’ll hear from our teaching team.

The Bible is the foundation. Story is the delivery. You’ll hear Scripture, real-life examples, and a clear takeaway you can carry into Monday.

Why 18 years changes the equation.

Love Church has been here for 18 years. That’s a long time in church-planting years. It means we’ve watched kids grow up and start families of their own. We’ve celebrated hundreds of baptisms, walked with people through loss and hardship, and stayed faithful through seasons that have tested a lot of churches.

Modern, for us, is not trendy. It’s tested.

Who this church is for.

If you’re a skeptic who has been hurt by a church and wants to try again carefully, this is for you.

If you grew up in church, left, and quietly miss parts of it, this is for you.

If you’ve never been to church in your life and you’re worried about looking out of place, this is for you.

If you’re raising kids and want them to know God without feeling like they have to pretend, this is for you.

Who this church probably isn’t for.

If you’re looking for a church that puts on a show, tells you only what you want to hear, or lets you stay hidden forever, we may not be the right fit.
