What Should I Wear to Church? (A No-Pressure Guide from an Actual Church)
The first Sunday you walk into a new church, you will probably be either wildly overdressed or wildly underdressed, and then spend thirty minutes thinking about it during the service.
We want to spare you that. So here’s a straight answer to a question you probably just Googled.
What do people actually wear to Love Church?
Most Sundays, our rooms are about 70% jeans, 20% leggings or joggers, and 10% slightly nicer than that. You’ll see T shirts, button-ups, hoodies, sneakers, Nebraska gear, and yes, the occasional guy in a suit because he feels like it. None of it is a statement. All of it is welcome.
What does the pastor wear?
Pastor Mike preaches most Sundays in jeans and an untucked button-up. Sometimes a sweater. Sometimes a tee. If you showed up wearing exactly what he's wearing, you'd fit right in.
What if I want to dress up?
Dress up. Nobody is going to side-eye you. If a dress or a sport coat makes you feel like yourself, wear it. You won't be alone.
What should my kids wear?
Whatever they can move in. Love Kidz is full of kids doing kid things: dancing, coloring, gluing, hugging, and occasionally crying on a Love Kidz leader’s shoulder. Dress them for a morning that will probably end with at least one mysterious stain. Maybe save the extra special outfit for another day.
What should I absolutely never feel like I have to wear?
A tie you don't own. A dress you borrowed. A pair of shoes you can't walk in. A full outfit you bought on Thursday because you thought church required it. Whatever you were wearing when you Googled this question — that's fine.
A note For anyone wondering why we’re even talking about this.
This question — "what should I wear?" — can sound small. It is not. For a first-time visitor, it is a real-life reason to bail. "I don't have the right clothes" is one of the most common last-minute reasons someone doesn't come. We don't want that to be the thing that keeps you home. So you are already dressed for Sunday. You've been dressed for Sunday all morning.
Come as you are.
